Pregnancy Articles-Pregnancy Information And Old Wives Tales

Published on Feb 22nd, 2010 under Health.By Admin

There are many very informative pregnancy articles covering just about everything from what foods to eat and not to eat while pregnant, to joining the ‘go green’ trend such as having a green baby shower and recipes for making your own baby foods.

There are also some so-called informative ones that stem from ‘old wives tales’! While the majority of these are filled with half-truths and myths, reading them is definitely a way to relax and ensure that what seems like an endlessly long nine months is filled with laughter for both moms and dads-to-be!

To deny cravings will cause a sty on the eye of the dad-to-be. Craving sweets means a girl and salty cravings means it’s a boy. Whether this is truth or myth only time will tell! Another bit of advice often given is to drink at least 10 glasses of water a day to keep the fluid in the amniotic sac around the baby clean.

They don’t tell you that the when the baby urinates and keeps the sac full—this is what the popular ‘Amniotic Fluid’ test is based upon and can also be effected by the woman’s hydration level.

This next one is one that I can definitely relate to since my mother-in-law said it every time she caught me with my arms above my head even if I was safely standing on the floor but reaching the top cupboard shelf. This old wives tale claims this will wrap the umbilical cord around the baby and make labor last a long time. In Hawaii, women are told not to wear a lei while pregnant for the same reason. The real truth is that the way the baby twists and turns in the womb determines how free of kinks the umbilical cord is!

There many, many more of these pregnancy information which can be found and enjoyed in a book or with the click of a mouse!
